Octavio Lopez was born in a beautiful city named Atlixco de las Flores, which is located at the bottom of volcano Popocatepetl in the state of Puebla. Even though he is still unsure whether he wants to abandon the United States or not, he was able to buy his own piece of land for when the time comes for him to leave. “Thanks to the lawyer Michael Faillace winning my case, I have been able to complete my savings to buy my own land in Puebla to live with my wife and three kids and not have to worry about paying rent or anything” says the villager.
As a delivery boy at the time, he was only getting paid 7.70$ an hour when he should’ve been making at least 8$. However, that was not the worst part: he had to work extra hours, mop floors, tie card board boxes, place products in the freezer as well as wash dishes too. The point is he had to do many things and receive very little pay for it. Regardless of these kind of employers, that take advantage of your immigration status to threaten and silence you, Octavio calls on all of his fellow countrymen to not let themselves be intimidated so that we do not lose the fruits of our labor.
He says he is happy with the work of the lawyer Michael Faillace because of how fast the case was resolved. In three months, the only thing that took long was him he jokes, because he didn’t have the money to file his taxes. He notes how Faillace wins his cases regardless of lacking his vision. “Michael is like an angel for many people that do not have a voice” he insists. “It’s evident but that doesn’t stop him. There are people with eyes and don’t want to see or help those that need it”. On the other hand, he believes that many of his fellow countrymen don’t realize that reporting injustices like these are necessary. “I understand them,” he sympathizes. We all come to achieve our dreams and we don’t want anything to get in the way of that, but a lawsuit can help us reach that dream, he finalizes.
