Barrios won trial and now looks at his future with much enthusiasm. Izael Barrios, native of Merida, now looks at his life as a worker of the food industry with other eyes after winning a labor lawsuit against his former employer, all thanks to his lawyer Michael Faillace. Working as a Food Runner (runner and kitchen assistant) in a Manhattan restaurant, he was getting paid between 4$ to 5$ an hour. A rate of pay that was illegal in the state of New York, which in 2017 the minimum wage was 11$ an hour. When he put himself in the hands of Mr. Faillace everything changed. He proved that he was receiving an illegal amount of pay and in return he received a juicy compensation for the year and a half he worked receiving the salary of a slave. Natively from Merida, the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan, he arrived to the United States with his wife and daughter in hopes of a better life and in search of the American Dream.
To his fellow workers, he advises them to not be scared. If they do not get paid what is theirs by law, file a report and take it to court. “I am very happy with Mr. Faillace for how quickly he took my case in court and eventually won,” finalizes Barrios. Mexica Izael Barrios on his way to achieving his goals in the United States thanks to Michael Faillace.
